【Tokyo Metro People】

In the "Tokyo Metro People" series, I focus on people commuting by train in Tokyo by photographing them at a fixed angle capturing people's bodies and the train's interior space.

The space inside the train and people inside the train are of great interest to me. While the train is a public space, each person spends their time inside the train in their own way. They read a book, play a game, listen to music or often take a nap. As different people come and go from the train, I can leisurely watch the people in this public space.

"Hello"
"Good-bye"

I point the camera and push the shutter at those who gather in Tokyo and share the same space much like sending an affectionate greeting, even if we forget each other's faces shortly thereafter.

After the Great East Japan Earthquake and while I was returning to my daily life little by little, I came to reflect on life in Tokyo. As a result, I started photographing the people in the train whom I had been interested in for many years.

Through this body of work, I aim to depict new images of the people living in Tokyo.
