Tokyo Puzzle
I am always amazed at the constant bombardment of visual stimuli in Tokyo whether it be a glitzy scene in Ginza,
the action packed streets around the Yamanote Line, or the manmade islands of Odaiba.

I first photographed Tokyo in the mid1980's with an old SLR and Tri-X film. My subjects were a blend of people, buildings, trees, and sunlight.
In 1998 I was inspired to photograph Tokyo again pioneering a new style of street photography: a simple pinhole camera on a tripod.
I discovered I was able to make photos that were both artistic and documentary at the same time.
The slow exposure times allowed me to experience Tokyo with all my senses.

My Tokyo-Ga series, ongoing since 2006, is a new way of looking at the oddities of Tokyo.
I use a three-hole pinhole camera to create analogue collages, hoping to tell stories with social messages, humor, and irony.
Tokyo is a giant jigsaw puzzle and I look for three different pieces that seem to fit together or a strong central image surrounded by soft backgrounds scenes.
